Hour nine of my client’s second Muay Thai course pulled us a bit back from our more intensive sessions. It was important for me to spend some more time on technique. We spent time at the beginning going over some basic techniques and covering a few fundamental points regarding pivoting on hooks and round kicks as well as posturing up more.

We then worked for 6 x 3 minute rounds using the active rest spots to improve on specific areas just covered in the previous round.

Round 1 – Boxing (focus mitts)

Active rest – shovel hooks and rolling

Round 2 – Teeps with punches (focus mitts/belly pad)

Active rest – shin-check/teep combination

Round 3 – Layering on round kicks (focus mitts/belly pad)

Active rest – pivoting and rolling the hips on round kicks

Round 4 – Clinch/knees only (focus mitts/belly pad)

Active rest – setting up curve knee and spear knee variations

Round 5 – Free sparring

Active rest – Footwork

Round 6 – Free sparring
