Hour two of my client’s current Muay Thai course continued with his suggestions for areas he felt were lacking in his personal development. We looked at teeps.

After our usual warm-up of sport specific exercises, we went back to the basic teep. This type of kick is thrown without the full thrusting of a power teep but is used more as a rangefinder/setter and to keep an opponent momentarily at bay. We spent a good deal of time giving and taking that technique, establishing the importance of maintaining a strong posture in the face of strikes rather than being overly defensive. Moving onto more powerful variations, we brought in the scooping block and the kick catch with counters.

The lesson finished with 1 x 3 minutes of sparring and then some PNF (contract and relax) stretching.
