Introducing the Guard (diary entry)

armbar from guard

22.10.19   After a layoff my client returned for the eighth hour of his Submission Grappling/Ground-Fighting course. Due to the time off, my client has decided to book me in for an additional 10 hours when this course finishes. Clients typically add on two extra hours to a basic 10 hour course due to the sophistication of this discipline. Tonight we revised previous material with the exception of escaping pins and focused on the closed guard.   We began with […]

13.03.19 My second lesson of the day was my regular nephew and uncle team. The junior lesson covered horizontal knees, uppercut elbows, side elbows, diagonal elbows and chopping elbows in Muay Thai. 01.09.18   This morning was my client’s penultimate lesson is a scheduled 10 hour course on MMA Ground-Fighting. After some discussion, we have decided to extend the course due to the sophisticated nature of submission fighting. Today we focused on basic escapes and began guard-work.   The warm-up was entirely geared towards callisthenics from underneath – snaking, bridging and crab-crawls. We then did a partner warm-up using bridges (upas) from underneath side-control.   We looked at escapes from four major […]

Striking from Knee-Pin & Mount (diary entry)

Striking from the knee pin1

04.08.18   This morning, my client completed the third hour of his 10 hour course on Mixed Martial Arts Ground-Fighting. We focused combinations from the knee-pin and mounted position, and then tied them together in a complete conditioning exercise to promote technique muscle-memory.   Today’s training method was to establish the pin, isolate strikes from the pin, put the strikes into a combination, add on appropriate submissions and then link the pins. Strikes and submissions were taught as a means […]
