27.12.16   The last lesson of 2016 consisted of pure stand-up work. We focused on western boxing and then Muay Thai, looking at simple mechanics for linear and circular strikes. The lesson began on the focus mitts with attack and defence tactics used in western boxing. We covered cutting off the ring, stepping off the line, dropping below the eye-line of an opponent for attack. 21.12.16 Tonight we specifically looked at the clinch range, combining strikes with throws. However, prior to this we had a complete MMA warm-up going through all ranges. We began with a progressive series of mobility exercises – quadruped shoulder rolls, cat stretch, Indian press-up, squat thrust and Indian squats. Modern Western Boxing serves as a good basis for MMA combination work. This is largely due to the speed and accessibility of punching.
