Range work on the pads

My client completed his eighth hour of Boxing training as part of his first 10-hour course. We began the class with some simple range exercises, layering in proactive head movement. Using me as target in the middle of the gym, my client worked through the three furthest ranges in Boxing: out of, edge of and long range. He used a pawing jab action to gauge distance. Training then moved onto the focus mitts for these structured rounds:


Focus mitts


  1. Jabs, working the same range patterns

  2. Jab/cross, working the same range patterns

  3. Layering in hooks at mid-range

  4. Layering in uppercuts at mid and close range

  5. Layering in overhands and shovel hooks


Heavy bag


  1. Working out of, edge of and long range
