Closing the distance

02.04.2025

My Wednesday client's 1.5 hour session continued his focus on improving engagement in Boxing. We used the following rounds to bring hooks and uppercuts into play at mid and close range as well as defending against them. I looked at typical set-ups for hooks like straight punches as constraints for my rounds.

3-minute rounds

  1. one-for-one at close and mid-range

  2. two-for-two at close and mid-range

  3. hooks and uppercuts vs defence only

  4. ditto

  5. body shots only

  6. ditto

  7. clinch only

  8. straight punches vs hooks and uppercuts

  9. ditto

  10. straight punches to the head/hooks and uppercuts to body vs vice versa

  11. ditto

5-minute free-sparring

15-minute warm-down, including PNF stretching
