Tonight’s 1.5 hour Mixed Martial Arts lesson brought more into focus how grappling has to be adapted. This isn’t just in reference to having to deal with strikes, although this is a major factor, but also having to deal with gloves. Gloves prohibit many techniques far more readily available to wrestlers and submission grapplers. Thoughts of this point influenced our warm-up rounds.
2-minute warm-up rounds:
- one-for-one punching
- one-for-one kicking
- wrestling with MMA gloves
- submission grappling with MMA gloves

5-minute sparring rounds:
- shoot kickboxing
- half-guard right leg (objective to land five uninterrupted strikes to the head, flatten or cross-face vs achieve dog-fight position, under-hook leg or stand up)
- ditto
- half-guard left leg
