MMA Bag and Pad Work (diary entry)

MMA BAG AND PAD WORKOUT04.12.2024

Due to an injury, my client and I decided to er on the side of caution and not spar for a change. That didn’t mean training wasn’t intense! He followed this routine:

5-minute rounds

  1. Uppercut bag – knees and punches
  2. Heavy bag – low kick combinations
  3. Uppercut bag – combinations into body locks
  4. Heavy bag – combinations into shoots
  5. Ground bag – ground ‘n pound
  6. Ground bag – guard pressing

All rounds with active rests of footwork, shrimping, break falls, shadow boxing, takedown repetitions or combinations of all

3-minute rounds

  1. Focus mitts and leg-pad – punching combinations, sprawls, shoots and low kicks
  2. Ditto with pad on other leg
  3. Thai pads and belly pad – teeps, body shots, body kicks, knees and elbows
  4. Thai pads – all combinations and shoots
  5. Focus mitts – ground ‘n pound
  6. Focus mitts – striking from guard

The lesson finished with a warm-down of static stretching and PNF stretching.
