My teaching client from Cotswold Karate School finished his course on Submission Grappling/Ground-Fighting with a two-hour hit on sweeps from close to mid-range. As the title states, our main focus was on half-guard. We especially spent a lot of time on deep half-guard.
We based our 5-minute rounds of these constraint-led games:
- Closed guard only no-hands breaking posture vs no-hands standing up in guard
- Open close guard only sweeps vs moving through, around or under guard
- Half-guard establishing lock-down and far leg under-hook vs chest-to-chest or choke
- Ditto on other side
- Begin in lockdown – Move to dominant position vs chest-to-chest or choke
- Ditto on other side
- Begin in half-guard – Move to dog-fight position vs chest-to-chest or choke
- Ditto on other side
- Begin in dog-fight – Sweep or take the back vs all counters to dominant position
- Ditto on other side
