This morning’s teaching consultancy lesson introduced the Thai clinch.
I began with basic clinch entries. It is important to build the clinch into the established armoury. This fighting range is integral to Muay Thai and it dictates many of the technique choices. Therefore, entries need to be as easily applied as any strike. Indeed, you should move to clinch in a way that is hard to distinguish from straight punches.
Having got the feeling for this type of entry, I brought in a simple combination suggestion: trapping with one hand whilst going for a collar with the other.
We looked at both the plum, and collar and elbow tie positions. From here we mainly focused on breaking the posture, first by using the forward and backward momentum and then by employing the v-step. I then brought in the curve knee and a simple front sweep.
