My second private lesson on Monday brought my client on her ninth hour of Muay Thai. Tonight I began introducing resistance in training after teaching some new counters.
Following the dynamic stretching warm-up, we did some simple one-for-one work, getting my client used to giving and receiving techniques in a semi-live environment. We just exchanges jabs, teeps and rear straight punches. This brought me onto deflecting a teep and countering. After this I introduced catching round kicks using the Dutch block as a starting point. This response was then paired with a simple front sweep and diagonal knee strikes. The latter was then taken onto the Thai focus mitts.
Both round kicks and knee strikes were then trained as an on-the-move drill. Round kicks were executed in a side-to-side fashion across the gym and knee-strikes were delivered as marching knees.
The lesson finished with my client’s first full round of sparring. This was very light with an emphasis on her attacking.
