Angles in Guard (diary entry)

Hour two of my client’s latest Mixed Martial Arts course continued our work on ground fighting. For the most part, we went back to Submission Grappling to encourage more proactive movement from the guard especially when angling the hips. The lesson consisted of the following 5-minute rounds:

  1. Objective to take angles from guard versus objective to square hips and achieve chest to chest position
  2. Ditto
  3. Objective to stay in one angled position and achieve a dominant positive versus square the hips
  4. Ditto from the other side
  5. Rounds 1 & 2 with striking layered in
