08.11.17   Tonight we tested and then built off the foundation taught last lesson. I struggle for an appropriate metaphor here and keep on using the term “scaffold”. One doesn’t usually think of mobility, fluidity and transitioning when one thinks of a scaffold, but the point remains that a fighter needs to have a mobile base in order to fight effecienty. 01.11.17   Tonight’s lesson moved away from MMA clinch and Muay Thai to explore ground-fighting and working from the guard. This topic came up after MMA sparring in the previous lesson, where my client expressed problems with executing effective movement whilst holding a closed guard position.   We warmed up with our usual set of mobility exercises into calisthenics. Child Self-Protection Course Continues (diary entry)

23.10.17   Tonight was the second in my special course for child self-protection. We began with a warm-up of catching games teaching evasion skills, spotting exit points, moving out of corners and creating distance. This moved us onto the fence, where we did a series of exercises to help teach understand personal space and using boundary lines. When it comes to children, this can be especially difficult. 11.10.17   Continuing our work on the Muay Thai clinch tonight’s lesson primarily looked at sweeps and finished with Mixed Martial Arts clinch-work. 27.09.17 Tonight’s sparring lesson mainly focused on stand-up. We warmed up with a series of shadow boxing exercises, including mirror work and interspersed with sets of specific calisthenics. This moved onto combination partner-work in western boxing, followed by a round of sparring and then the same procedure repeated for kickboxing. The combination training was split into counter-attacks and in-and-out attacking. 06.09.17   Tonight’s lesson looked at punching around the clock, drawing an opponent and asymmetrical combinations. We trained in Western Boxing and Muay Thai concepts with some ideas transferred over from Dutch Kickboxing and Tae Kwon Do.   The warm-up consisted of mirror footwork and placing strikes. 08.08.17   Tonight’s double lesson continued my client’s training in the peek-a-boo fighting style of western boxing for martial arts cross training. We spent more time going deeper into footwork, upper body movement and combining the two. This began with the use of agility markers as the lesson’s warm-up. 24/05/17   Tonight we looked at all ranges of Mixed Martial Arts. We began with stand-up, then moved onto clinch takedown drills, followed by Muay Thai clinch and then went through ground work before doing some integration work and sparring.   The stand-up was broken up into western boxing and Muay Thai.
